And, he's been one of the most accomplished contemporary/traditional jazz artists on the scene, as evidenced by his fourteen records as a leader.

With the August 5, 2014 release of Slam Dunk on Heads Up, a division of Concord Music Group, Albright continues his reign supreme as the genre's most compelling and consistent artist. Fans will hear his searing and soulful sax lines on this twelve-track recording. And, they'll be in for a surprise, as Albright shows off his chops as a bassist, along with his ebullient tenor, baritone and soprano saxophone arrangements on his own compositions, and his super covers of classics by Phil Collins and James Brown, with special guest vocalist Peabo Bryson.

"This record is synonymous with my previous records, in that it has the direct influence of James Brown, the Philly International sound, and the Motown sound," Albright says. "But what we wanted to do on this record was to take those instruments that are normally in the background -- bass, flute and horns -- and bring them up front. In terms of being a bassist, I was inspired by Louis Johnson [of the Brothers Johnson] back in college. A lot of people don't know that I play bass, flute and some of the other instruments...so we decided to make it -- no pun intended -- a slam dunk project, and bring all of those elements to the forefront."

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/geraldalbrightmusic PledgeMusic: http://smarturl.it/GeraldPledge Amazon: http://smarturl.it/SlamDunkCD Gerald Albright & Norman Brown - 24/7 (2012) tag:esbjazzradio.ning.com,2012-06-30:4069663:Video:24603 2012-06-30T14:23:15.541Z ESB http://esbjazzradio.ning.com/profile/esb

Artist: Gerald Albright & Norman Brown

Title Of Album: 24/7

Year Of Release: 2012

Label: Concord Jazz

Tracklist:

01. Brown and Albright primarily stick to the more soulful contemporary R&B end of smooth jazz here, and cuts such as the bright and melodic leadoff cut "In the Moment," the cinematic "Perfect Love," and the sensuous title track -- featuring vocals by Gerald's daughter Selina Albright -- are finger-snapping, head-bobbing numbers that set a romantic, positive-minded mood. Elsewhere, we get the Brazilian funk of "Buenos Amigos," the club-ready "Yes I Can," and the old-school R&B of "Champagne Life," once again featuring the attractive, sweetly soulful vocals of the younger Albright. More than a few cuts on 24/7 have an old-school vibe that, while never getting too deep into any decade-specific production, do evince a clear passion for various R&B sounds from the '70s through the '90s. For longtime fans of either of these contemporary jazz titans, 24/7 will certainly be a round-the-clock pleasure. (by Matt Collar)
Ever since the debut of Norman Brown s critically acclaimed 2002 album, Just Chillin which won a GRAMMY in the prestigious Best Pop Instrumental Category this innovative and original guitarist has been front and center in the fast evolving fusion of pop, R&B and jazz that has captured the imagination of true music aficionados across the country and around the world.

On 24/7, Brown teams up with saxophone master Gerald Albright, whose high-profile recordings have established the Los Angeles-based musician as one of the most prominent artists and a true musicians musician. Whether he is playing contemporary or straight-ahead jazz, Albright stands in a class all by himself. His 2010 release, Pushing The Envelope, received a GRAMMY nomination for Best Pop Instrumental Album.
