My father Dick Kastel has been playing jazz professionally since he was 17 and my first memories of music are listening to Dad practicing scales every morning, at rehearsals and performances of him playing with many jazz singers and big bands. My first album is a collection of standards made famous by them and I had the greatest opportunity to work with two of today's great jazz musicians Jimmy Haslip and Jeff Lorber, who co-produced my new album Indiana Rain and with whom I wrote two songs "Detours" and "Don't Tell Me." That's why my new album mixes it up a little. I'm also working on a series of jazz cuts with Pat Coil out of Nashville that haven't been released, yet, that are all jazz! What can I say? Those chords just float around in my head when I stat to write...Sandy
