An experienced jazz singer, pianist, composer, recording artist and playwright June “Pepper” Harris, a former Chicagoan, who lives in Toronto with her family. Harris is presently in planning stages for her next recorded CD (primarily blues/Latin) late spring and mounting a new stage production under the direction of Toronto's Jason Morneau. *Original background music created by Ms Harris. June has performed as a solo artist and with her former group The International Jazz Trio (with drummer Keith Hall and bassist Gerry Higgins)in lounges, hotels, nightclubs, theatres, on radio, TV, concerts in the USA, Canada, Europe, Scandinavia, Israel, The Middle East and Far East.
Also, the artist performed extensively in Singapore, SBC (Singapore Broadcasting TV) with SBC band; playing many return engagements there both as a single, on TV and radio in, Jakarta and Doha, Qatar.
“June ‘Pepper’ Harris, All Original” compilation CD, features a variety of her compositions in jazz, blues, Latin/jazz and cross-over jazz. The album was recorded in Winnipeg, with some of Canada’s finest musicians including arranger/horn player Dr. Bernie Rose (Instructor, New York School of Music); Walle Larsson (Flute & Sax), radio host for Cool Jazz FM and other artists.
Also featured on the albums two Big Band numbers recorded at Finsk/Norsk Radio in Finland are “I Want a Goodlooking Lover” (Blues) and “I Never Could Say No” (Jazz Latin) are the Matti ‘Oilling’ Boiling Big Band featuring the noted sounds of alto saxophonist Richie Cole.
Ms. Harris’ worldwide tours included Barcelona, Spain, as soloist and second time Puerto Vallarta, Spain with trio, featuring jazz singer Chantal Aston; her daughter; extensive tours of Holland; Norway, Sweden and Finland. She played return engagements as a solo musician and with her International Jazz Trio featuring British musicians Gerry Higgins, bassist and Keith Hall recording artist, drummer and percussionist; at the Hotel Ramada Presidentti in Helsinki; SAS Hotel in Bergen, Norway and Scandinavian Beer Fest, held in Singapore.
During 1996; Harris conducted jazz vocal workshops for the DuMaurier Cool Jazz Winnipeg Festival and also, The Kalamazoo National Jazz Festival for which she received a certificate of Merit from the Mayor of Kalamazoo for her participation and dedicated performance for children. In addition Ms Harris conducted a live televised vocal workshop with 22 students. Ms Harris is a member of the Winnipeg Musician’s Association, Toronto Blues Society, Manitoba Blues Society and Manitoba Association of Playwrights (MAP).
